The method involves guiding work pieces (11) in longitudinal alignment through a scanner (7). The work pieces are machined from front side for displaying finger profiles joined into each other. The scanner is equipped for detecting a position of edge anomalies such as rough edge. The work pieces are conveyed into a restiform flow into longitudinal direction one after the other. Each work piece, after leaving the scanner, is guided into a reference position by tilling the work pieces right and left relative to the traverse direction. An independent claim is also included for a device for quasi-continuous manufacturing of longitudinally extended components.
