The casting tool (1) e.g. die comprises a hollow molding cavity, an opening (3) with a supply (2) for filling the hollow mold cavity with liquid metal, and a unit arranged in the area of the opening and/or the supply for admitting the liquid metal with a cooling medium and having a channel (5) for introducing the cooling medium into the opening and/or the supply. The channel is lockable by a closure element, which comprises a slider (4) and seals off the channel interlocking against the opening and/or the supply. The cooling medium is introducible into the channel over a bore. The casting tool (1) e.g. die comprises a hollow molding cavity, an opening (3) with a supply (2) for filling the hollow mold cavity with liquid metal, and a unit arranged in the area of the opening and/or the supply for admitting the liquid metal with a cooling medium and having a channel (5) for introducing the cooling medium into the opening and/or the supply. The channel is lockable by a closure element, which comprises a slider (4) and seals off the channel interlocking against the opening and/or the supply. The cooling medium is introducible into the channel over a bore. The channel and the bore are simultaneously lockable by the closure element. The cooling medium is admitted with pressure. An independent claim is included for die casting process.
