The curtain has an end strip (30) closing a fire protection textile, and a foot rail (34) attached to a holding device (32). The holding device comprises a positioning spring (48.1), so that the foot rail is movably fixed around a given safe distance in a direction to the holding device. The foot rail is held by the positioning spring in such a manner that motion of the foot rail takes place on the holding device to and away from the holding device against spring force of the positioning spring. A signaling device (52) is attached to a side turned towards a visible surface of the rail. An independent claim is also included for a fire protection device comprising a fire or smoke protective curtain.
