The armrest (4) has a backrest body (6) rotatably supported in a rear sided area around a rotational axis. An arm support (7) is provided in an area of an upper side of the backrest body, where height of the arm support is displaced relative to the backrest body. A damping unit i.e. silicon brake, is provided to damp resetting movement of the arm support in different end positions. The arm support is designed as a cover for a stowage compartment (9). A resting rail and a resting profile are provided to secure the arm support relative to the body in different height positions.
