The method involves receiving measured values during a predetermined time period. The measured values of the time period are statistically evaluated for determining a statistical value characterized by distribution of the measured values, where the statistical value is a moment of third order of the distribution and/or a comparison reproducing a distance to a compared distribution. An alertness value is determined under the consideration of the statistical value. The measured values are filtered from the evaluation by a low-pass filter. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle comprising a driver assistance system.
