The device has a cover attached on a container, where the device exhibits a contour that forces a gas bag (12) to a shape that is co-ordinated with a contour of a gas bag support plate (10) by locking an outer boundary region of the support plate. The contour of the device is formed at the cover that comprises a locking mechanism. The cover is locked in the gas bag support plate by the locking mechanism, and the gas bag support plate is locked at the device in a defined position. An independent claim is also included for a method for accommodating a gas bag in a gas bag module for a passenger safety device.
