The method involves outputting a warning to a driver of a motor vehicle in case of interference by self-diagnosing control devices. A recommended measure is displayed during the outputting of the warning based on a severity of failure in the motor vehicle, where information of the recommended measure is acknowledged by the driver. A safety mode is activated when the acknowledgement of the information does not take place within a predetermined time frame.
