The system has a determining device for determining position and direction information of a motor vehicle, and a processor device for calculating a route from a starting point to a target point. The processor device predicts deviation of the determined information from the calculated route based on comparison between the calculated route and the determined information. The processor device automatically calculates an alternate route during prediction of the deviation. A data input receives driving direction display information of the vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle comprising a driving direction display system coupled with a navigation system such that driving direction display information is transmitted to the navigation system.
