The machine i.e. alternator (100), has a rotor (4) includes a rotating shaft (44) comprising slip rings (47, 48) connected with field windings. A brush assembly (6) comprises brushes (61, 62) connected with the slip rings. A cover member (250) covers the brushes. A sensor (7) comprises a movable part (71) that is attached at an end of the shaft. A measuring part (72) measures a physical parameter of rotation of the rotor based on rotation of the movable part with the rotation of the rotor. A member defining a labyrinth structure is provided in an area of the measuring part. The sensor and the rotating shaft are made of metal. The machine comprises a cooling fan made from a metallic material or from a resin material that is mixed with metal or ceramics.
