The machine has a mixing chamber (1) filled with helium-3-rich and heium-4-rich mixing phases (4, 5). The chamber has an inlet opening (2) for the helium-3-rich phase at an upper side and an outlet opening (3) for the helium-4-rich phase at a lower side. A heat exchanger transfers heat between a still and the chamber. The chamber has a geometry in which a middle area of the chamber has larger volume than upper and lower areas. Gaps (7) are formed between filling bodies (8) and walls of the chamber and/or the still for moving the mixing phases between the walls and the bodies.
