The device (2) has an interval skip mechanism for outputting a rear windscreen wiper control signal with variable interval time. The interval skip mechanism has a signal input for receiving a speed signal (v) of a motor vehicle such that the interval time is varied using hysteresis depending on the speed signal. The control signal is formed such that a rear windscreen wiper (1) executes three wiping cycles with the interval time of the interval skip mechanism. The interval time is not regularly toggled between speed ranges. The windscreen wiper is controlled with the variable interval time. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a motor vehicle including a rear windscreen wiper (2) a method for controlling a rear windscreen wiper of a motor vehicle.
