Polyester resin (I), which is obtained by polycondensation of a mixture comprising (a) at least one polyol; (b) at least one polycarbonic acid or its derivative; (c) 2-propylheptanoic acid glycidyl ester and/or 4-methyl-2-propylheptanoic acid glycidyl ester, is claimed. Independent claims are included for: (1) coating agent comprising (I), at least one cellulose nitrate, and at least one polyisocyanate; and (2) aqueous coating composition comprising water soluble polyester resin having an acid number of 31-80 mg of potassium hydroxide/g.
