The device has a reflector (5) for reflecting a light beam (4) corresponding to a wide field. A selecting unit selects a light beam (4') from the beam (4). The beam (4') corresponds to a field reduced from the wide field, and is representative of any region of interest (52) of a wide field image (42). A movable digital camera (20) is arranged downstream of the reflector. The camera captures only the beam (4'). Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a method of capturing an image acquired by a large field optical system; and (b) an image capturing system comprising a capturing device.
