The machine i.e. starter (1), has a rotating assembly rotating with respect to a longitudinal axis and displaced between rest and driving positions along the axis. The assembly is rotated by inertia, when the assembly returns to the rest position. A magnetic structure (40) generates a magnetic field for permitting rotation braking of the assembly by distributing eddy current, when the assembly returns to the rest position. The assembly has a starter drive unit (19) comprising a drive (26) provided with a steel body, and the structure has a crown (41) made of ferromagnetic material.
