The exchanger has a body with a plate (1) in thermal contact with another plate, where each plate has spaced channels (10A, 20A). Two delivery units respectively deliver two fluids to the channels, and two withdrawing units respective withdraw the heated fluid and the cooled fluid from the channels. One of the channels is extended in a direction perpendicular to that of the other channel. The zone has an auxiliary passage (5) traversing or adjacent to a thickness of the plates such that the passage connects the channels of each plate with atmosphere. An independent claim is also included for a method for exchanging heat between two fluids by utilizing a heat exchanger.
