The method involves reducing pollutant components using a post-treatment device mounted on an exhaust path of a motor vehicle. A state of the post-treatment device is determined using a stored aging pattern. The same pollutant components are again reduced based on the determined state of the post-treatment device, where the post-treatment device has an oxidation catalyst (4) placed on an exhaust line of a drive train. An independent claim is also included for a drive train for a motor vehicle.
