Permanent deformation of keratin fibers, preferably hair, comprises: (a) a step of mechanical stretching of keratin fibers by rolling the fibers on the means for mechanical stretching to form curls; (b) a step for applying to the keratin fibers a reducing composition comprising cysteine and/or its derivatives, salts and/or hydrates; (c) optional step of rinsing the keratin fibers; (d) a step of setting of a means for covering the means of mechanical stretching to form a closed space to maintain a temperature of at 50-250[deg] C; and (e) optional fixing step by oxidation. Permanent deformation of keratin fibers, preferably hair, comprises: (a) a step of mechanical stretching of keratin fibers by rolling the fibers on the means for mechanical stretching to form curls; (b) a step for applying to the keratin fibers a reducing composition comprising cysteine and/or its derivatives, salts and/or hydrates; (c) optional step of rinsing the keratin fibers; (d) a step of setting of a means for covering the means of mechanical stretching to form a closed space to maintain a temperature of at 50-250[deg] C; and (e) optional fixing step by oxidation, where at least one means for mechanical stretching and covering means is a means for heating. An independent claim is included for a kit combining at least: a device comprising at least one means of mechanical stretching of keratin fibers, and at least a means of covering the fibers, where the means of mechanical stretching, covering means, or both means are a means of heating; and a compartment containing a reducing composition.
