The device (D) has a camera for acquiring images of a zone (Z) of the ground (SL) behind or in front of a car (V). A sensor (CA) is placed in a front lower part (PV) e.g. front bumper (PCV), or rear lower part (PR) e.g. rear bumper (PCR), of the car and analyzes the ground zone for determining a height separating a portion of the analyzed ground zone from a selected location of the car. An alarm module (MA) generates alarm, when the determined height is greater than a selected threshold.
