The invention relates to a radiation detector comprising an envelope (2; 2a; 2f) enclosing a scintillating body sensitive to radiation emitted by the medium outside the envelope, characterized in that the envelope (2; 2a; 2f) is constituted, at least in a given zone, a first layer (7; 7a; 7f) of a first material, in particular a metallic material, ensuring in said zone a moisture-tightness between the exterior and interior environments, the envelope also being formed in said zone of a second layer (8; 8a-8f) of a second material, in particular a composite material, forming a substantially rigid shell. The invention applies to the field of hygroscopic scintillating crystal radiation detectors.
