PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a front and back discrimination device for surely discriminating the front side and the back side of even an object the contour shape os which does not have characteristic section, such as corners or valleys.SOLUTION: This front and back discrimination device 1 of a skin S is provided with a skin conveyance means 10 for conveying the skin S; a camera 31 for imaging, at least a portion of the skin S conveyed by the skin conveyance means 10; and an image processing process 33 for binarizing the image of the skin S imaged by a camera 31; and for discriminating the back and the front of the skin S from the binarized image. The image processing process 33 discriminates the front and the back of the skin S, on the basis of the binary image of a background section A between a back section St and a ring section, when the skin S is viewed.
