PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a pet food having excellent palatability without the problem of processing suitability even if meat or fish having best palatability or a protease digestion product thereof is much used. PSOLUTION: The method for producing a pet food includes making a raw material mixture into a batter-like dough having a water content of not less than 35 mass% and not more than 50 mass%, exposing the dough to microwaves to heat and coagulate the dough at not less than 65C and not more than 100C, cutting and forming the coagulated dough and adjusting the dough into a water content of not more than 10% by hot-air drying. The method for producing the pet food includes carrying out hot-air drying at not less than 150C and not more than 200C for not less than 10 minutes and not more than 30 minutes.
