PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially-advantageous method and an industrially-advantageous apparatus for regenerating noble metal-carrying catalyst, the method and apparatus in which the original catalytic activity of the noble metal-carrying catalyst can be recovered without being restricted in shapes or arrangement of the noble metal-carrying catalyst.;SOLUTION: Low-temperature plasma is applied to the noble metal-carrying catalyst with deteriorated catalytic activity in the presence of an oxygen-containing gas. Discharge plasma to be generated by a silent discharge method, a creeping discharge method, a pulse discharge method, a ferroelectric pellet-packed bed discharge method or a discharge method in which these methods are combined is used as the low-temperature plasma. An oxidizing gas selected from oxygen, ozone, nitrogen monoxide and nitrogen dioxide is used the oxygen-containing gas. The regeneration of the noble metal-carrying catalyst is performed in such an atmosphere that a component causing contamination of the noble metal-carrying catalyst at low temperature is not formed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
