PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make life estimation and further life detection expressed as a number of strokes possible in terms of wear loss deciding metal die life, enabling a quantitative wear loss calculation formula on a relationship between wear loss and number of strokes according to a wear loss model taking account of conditions characteristic of a forged metal die, enabling estimation and detection of number of strokes to start wear, wear loss per a stroke, total wear loss for total number of strokes and enabling quantitative and quick feed back on metal die designing.;SOLUTION: The zero wear threshold number of strokes until which metal die wear caused by stroke is negligible, and wear loss for a stroke after starting wear, are calculated based on the mechanical load which is an attacking factor against the metal die and high temperature strength of the metal die which is a strength deterioration factor for the metal die and thermally deteriorated strength caused by repetitive exposure to the high temperature.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
