PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel polyester resin which is produced without using an alkylphenol-formaldehyde condensate while decreasing the influence on the environment or human bodies, has physical properties equivalent to those of a hitherto known rosin-modified phenol resin, and gives printed matters excellent in gloss; a production method therefor; a printing ink binder containing the polyester resin; and a printing ink containing the binder.;SOLUTION: The polyester resin is produced by reacting a rosin (a), a hydroxyacid (b), an aromatic polybasic acid (c), and a polyol (d).
