Novel proteins involved in nuclear translocation of substances in neurons, genes encoding the proteins, and uses thereof

A novel protein CRAG, which has been isolated and identified as a CRAM-binding protein, comprises the amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:2 and has a GTPase activity sequence and a nuclear migration signal sequence. As the results of analysis on its functions, it is indicated that this protein CRAG participates in the nuclear migration of a substance in nerve cells and the nuclear migration of a denatured protein and the elimination of this denatured protein in polyglutamine disease. Thus, it is intended to provide a novel protein participating in the nuclear migration of a substance in nerve cells, a gene encoding this protein, etc. It is expected that the above protein, gene, etc. are usable in the diagnosis, treatment and so on of such neurodegenerative diseases.
