PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide lightweight blend fiber excellent in shading tendency, lightweightness and physical properties including boiling water shrinkage and residual elongation and also having high mechanical strength. PSOLUTION: The lightweight blend fiber with high shading tendency is made from a fiber-forming thermoplastic polymer A as the main component, a thermoplastic polymer B having no maleimide structure in the molecular skeleton, and a light shading agent. The blend fiber has numerous microvoids, being 2-30% in boiling water shrinkage represented by the formula(1):S=(1-L/LSB0/SB)100( wherein, S is boiling water shrinkage(%); LSB0/SBis the original length of a hank taken on a bobbin, measured at an initial load of 0.09 cN/dtex; and L is the length of the hank, measured at an initial load of 0.09 cN/dtex after air-dried, after the above hank is treated in boiling water for 15 min under no substantial load ) and 5-50% in residual elongation.
