Promoter enhanced chilled ammonia based system and method for removal of CO₂ from flue gas stream

A chilled ammonia based CO₂ capture system and method is provided. A promoter is used to help accelerate certain capture reactions that occur substantially coincident to and/or as a result of contacting a chilled ammonia based ionic solution with a gas stream that contains CO₂.
