Process for the regeneration of a catalyst lu00ecquido iu00c8nico used, and catalyst lu00ecquido iu00c8nico is described a process for regeneration of a catalyst comprising a cationic component ionic liquid used and an anion component.The catalyst has been deactivated by polymers complexed with the anionic chain component comprising asetapas adding a reagent which is capable of replacing the polymer chain complexed by the cationic component of the catalyst.The said reagent being added in an amount sufficient to react with an appropriate amount of both the components free and complexed on the catalyst used and remove the polymer chain replaced to produce a catalyst regenerated ionic liquid.
