PRODUCTION OF HYDROGEN FOR LOW TEMPERATURE FUEL CELLS FROM STEAM REFORM AND OXIDATIVE REFORM OF ALCOHOLS, USING MIXED OXID-BASED CATALYSTS WITH PEROVSKIT STRUCTURE. The present invention comprises the use of mixed oxide catalysts containing at least lanthanum, nickel and oxygen in the reactions of steam reforming and oxidative reform at low temperature of alcohols or a mixture of these alcohols, such as ethanol. The catalysts have a perovskite structure represented by Lai ~ 1-x ~ M ~ x ~ NiO ~ 3 ~ where x 0.0 to 1.0 and M = elements of the group of alkaline earth metals or lanthanides. The hydrogen generated in the method of the invention can be used, among other applications, in a low temperature fuel cell such as those of the PEM type.
