The present invention relates to an isolated nucleic acid sequence encoding a polypeptide with nitrilase activity, a nucleic acid construct including such nucleic acid sequence and vectors comprising said nucleic acid sequence or said nucleic acid constructs. The present invention further relates to amino acid sequences being encoded by said nucleic acid sequence and to microorganism containing said nucleic acid sequence or nucleic acid constructs or vectors comprising said nucleic acid sequence or nucleic acid constructs. The invention also relates to a process for preparing chiral carboxylic acids from nitriles, which process employs prepared nitrilase.
