An electrochemical battery cell having a core wound is disclosed. The coiled core includes a cathode sheet, an anode sheet, and a separator sheet. An anode connector at the first end of the wound core is connected to the anode sheet, and a cathode connector at the second, opposite end of the wound core is connected to the cathode sheet. The coiled core has a length L and width W, and each connector has a width W. The length of the wound core L, the width of the wound core W and the width of each connector W have the ratio 0 (W-W) / L 0.37.
