A SIMPLE AND ECO-FRIENDLY PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF HIGHLY ENRICHED TEA GALLATES FROM TENDER PARTS OF TEA PLANT

: The present invention relates to an improved process for isolating and purifying a mixture of tea catechins. Particularly the invention relates to a single step purification process for the production of highly enriched tea catechins, free from caffeine, amino acids, soluble sugars, organic acids, pectins, purine alkaloids and lipids which comprise the grinding/pulverizing of plant material with liquid nitrogen and then making the crude extract of catechin in boiling water. The crude, cooled aqueous extract of plant material is then passed through column containing an adsorbent which specifically adsorbs catechins and get through extraneous materials like caffeine, amino acids, purine alkaloids, soluble sugars and lipids. The present invention further relates to a eco-friendly process whereby highly pure catechins mixture is obtained using green solvents such as water and aqueous ethanol. The catechins so obtained are non-hygroscopic, odorless, taint free and good to taste and may be used in pharmaceutical, neutraceutical and cosmetic products. No. of Pages : 37 No. of Claims : 9
