A method for automatically processing samples mounted tissue at a plurality of slides (37) in a rotating drum (34) mounted on a platform instrument set comprising the steps of: providing a plurality of separate thermal platforms (50) mounted drum (34), each thermal platform comprising (50) a heater (64) for heating each of said plurality of slides (37) and a sensor for detecting the temperature of each slide, wherein the temperature of each slide (37 ) can be controlled independently; controlling the heat of each of the plurality of heaters (64) with control electronics (52) mounted on the drum (34) which monitors and controls each thermal platform individually (50) separately; and treating said tissue samples, wherein said treatment comprises heating at least one slide (37) with one of said heaters (64), and wherein information and power pass between the rotating drum and the platform instrument fixed through a ring manifold structure (56).
