The present invention relates to a composition comprising an extract or aconcentrate of Butyrospermum parkii as a dietarysupplement or a pharmaceutical composition and to the use of such compositionsfor the preparation of a medicament or a dietarysupplement for the suppression of hypersensitivity and/or inflammatoryreaction. The composition may optionally be formulatedwith a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier for systemic or topicaladministration. More specifically, the invention relates to a dietarysupplement or a pharmaceutical composition comprising an extract or aconcentrate of Buryrospermum parkii, wherein said extractor concentrate contains Butyrospermum-triterpenes and optionally the sterolsstigmasterol, avanasterol, 24-methyl-cholest-7-enol,karitesterol A, karitesterol B and .alpha.-spinasterol.
