Modular system for breast diagnosis and breast interventions

The machine has a spiral computer tomography gantry (10) rotatable about a rotational axis (12) and movable in a direction parallel to the rotational axis. A support surface for a patient (30) is provided in the machine, so that breasts (31) to be imaged are projected into a cylindrical imaging region of the gantry. A sample receptacle (83) is placed within the imaging region, where the receptacle houses a tissue sample (32) or a reference sample. A range of gantry movement is dimensioned so that one of the breasts and a content of the receptacle are imaged with the gantry. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for locating a breast of a female patient in an X-ray machine, comprising a cup (2) a method for examining a breast of a female patient using a gantry having a spiral computer tomography scanner.
