The invention relates to a method for tandem time of flight analysis, especially comprising: a step of interaction of a precursor with a target (5), creating at least charged products and/or neutral products; a step of accelerating the precursors before the interaction in order to enable the detection of the neutral products; a step of enabling the successive arrival of the precursors for the interaction step; and a step of detecting, on a detector (10), the neutral products and the charged products of a given precursor by distinguishing them from the charged products and the neutral products of the following precursor, said detection step comprising the following phases for each precursor: when the first interaction product arrives on the detector, an acquisition window is triggered; at least the times of arrival of the different products resulting from the interaction of said precursor are digitalised in the acquisition window (16), creating a set of numbers; the set of numbers is labelled as an event; and at least part of the event is recorded. Said method comprises a final step of analysing the recorded events for characterising the precursors and/or the target (5) by means of physical variables.
