The invention relates to a road navigation system (1) comprising: at least one road map (10) including a plurality of road segments (11) and location information (12), forming a cartographic representation of a plurality of given geographical areas; a digital terminal (20) comprising at least one microprocessor, a display screen, a set of instructions ordered such as to allow the implementation of a road navigation application and a visual code read module (23); and an application server (40) capable of operating a road navigation application that can be remotely activated by the digital terminal (20). According to the invention, the road map comprises: a plurality of visual codes (13) each related to a given geographical area, and identifiers that can automatically trigger the launch of the road navigation application related to the geographical area associated with the identifier of one of the codes of the map following the reading of said code using the read module. The invention also relates to the corresponding road map and a method for the automatic activation of a traffic information-type digital geographical application.
