According to the invention a powder metallurgical powder composition is provided that comprises as a base material non-agglomerating metallic and/or metal oxide and/or metal carbide grains with a mean grain size of 0.01-5 mm and a high melting point lubricant admixed to the base material in powdery form in the amount of 0.01-10% calculated per unit mass of the base material. The melting temperature of said high melting point lubricant is at least 550 degrees Celsius, but lower than the melting temperature of the grains that have the lowest melting temperature in the base material. The high melting point lubricant comprises as a major component inorganic silica (SiO2) and additionally at least one further oxide selected from the group of inorganic alkali metal oxides, inorganic alkali-earth metal oxides and inorganic semimetal oxides differing from silica.
