PURPOSE: A worm shaft mounting structure for a motor-driven power steering apparatus is provided to restrict noises and prevent the abrasion of gear teeth by compensating clearances caused by a lateral force as well as a vertical force exerted on a worm shaft. ;CONSTITUTION: A worm shaft mounting structure for a motor-driven power steering apparatus comprises a housing(10) and a worm shaft(20). One side of the worm shaft is coupled with a motor to rotate a worm wheel and the other side is inserted in a mounting hole(11) formed in the housing. In the mounting hole, a bearing assembly(30), a supporter(40), an elastic member(50), and a plug(60) are installed. The bearing assembly is coupled with the worm shaft and formed with a first inclined surface. The supporter, which the worm shaft passes through, is formed with a second inclined surface facing the first inclined surface. The elastic member is coupled with the supporter. The plug is inserted and fixed in the mounting hole to press the supporter in the arrangement direction of the motor.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2011
