PURPOSE: A prediction apparatus for a robot using a hierarchical prediction model and a prediction method thereof are provided to improve the recognition accuracy of a robot by estimating a situation through the matching of data included in each hierarchical layer. CONSTITUTION: In a prediction apparatus for a robot using a hierarchical prediction model and a prediction method thereof, a first layer stores feature data for recognizing an object by processes sense data inputted to a robot. A second layers stores a symbol extracted from feature data, and a third layer stores upper symbols extracted from the symbols. A situation relational model(20) creates mutual relation between a fist, a second, and a third layer, and a recognition model(30) processes the sense data which is inputted to the robot and matches it with data included in the fist, the second, and the third layer. A prediction model(40) predicts a situation based on a matching result from a recognition model and the mutual relation from the mutual relation model.
