The cylinder liner is made of a metal matrix. The metal matrix consists of an element from aluminum or iron. The metal matrix hard material particles consist of a compound, which is selected from carbides or nitrides. The light alloy matrix contains 50 wt%. of aluminum and 5 wt.% of silicon. An independent claim is included for a method for producing a cylinder liner, which involves utilizing injector arc wire squirting, where the wire contains an element from aluminum or iron.
