The method involves activating a braking function in the brake system (10) after a primary collision is detected. An energy storage unit (16) is activated for executing the braking function such that the energy is released within a short time span for developing maximum braking pressure. The developed maximum braking pressure is modulated for adjusting the desired braking force. An independent claim is also included for an evaluating- and control unit for use in passenger protection system for activating and controlling a brake system for influencing the vehicle movement after a primary collision is detected.
