The method involves scanning a surface (16) of a roadway, and determining distance changes based on the scanning of the surface. Direction, speed and/or inclination of a vehicle (10) are determined based on the determined distance changes. A laser beam (18) is radiated on a surface below an incident angle (20), and reflections (22, 24) of the laser beam are detected and evaluated by a camera. Images detected by the camera are evaluated to determine the distance changes. The reflections of the laser beam are optically overlapped with the laser beam radiated by a laser. An independent claim is also included for a device for measuring direction, speed and/or inclination of a vehicle, comprising a laser system.
