The system (1) has a two-cylinder internal-combustion engine (2) provided with an exhaust section (3). A machine (4) is provided for converting exhaust gas energy into mechanical and/or electrical output. A generator (5) is connected to an output shaft (6) of the engine, where the engine and the machine are arranged in a common machine housing. A thermoelectric generator (7) is arranged at the exhaust section in a heat flow direction in the machine housing. A common cooling circuit is arranged in the internal-combustion engine and the machine, and the generator is integrated in the housing. The generator is designed as a crankshaft starter generator, and the machine is designed as a Stirling machine, a steam engine or a turbine. The internal-combustion engine is designed as a petrol internal-combustion engine.
