The method involved determining an actual seating place occupancy condition of a vehicle using sensors that are provided at a seating place. The condition is determined by evaluation of image data, which is produced by one or multiple video cameras that record an inner space of the vehicle. Reproducing characteristics are adjusted by an audio system in dependent upon the determined actual seating place occupancy condition. The characteristics define frequency path, phase length, amplitude and time displacement of audio signals or audio data. An independent claim is also included for an audio system for sounding seat occupancy condition to a passenger in a vehicle.
