The device (1) has working heads (3, 4) i.e. mowing heads, held at a self-driven vehicle (2) and guidable to each other with a transverse disalignment during operation. One of the working heads is provided with an auxiliary mower device (8) that is expandable with a component in a transverse direction toward the other working head during the operation. The auxiliary mower device is movable from expand position into an alternate position, where the movement decreases total width from the working heads and the auxiliary mower device. An independent claim is also included for a method for mowing a boundary region of a road or a way.
