The roller has a roller core (11), and a roller lining attached on the roller core and provided with lining areas (14), which are partially covered. One of the lining areas is provided in a central area of the roller, and the other lining area is provided in an end area of the roller. The lining areas are overlapped and/or covered with variable thicknesses. The lining areas are arranged adjacently when being viewed in a longitudinal direction of the roller. The former lining area runs out thinner and/or with smaller thickness on the roller core. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a roller.
