The method involves determining a time period for an energy surplus or shortage of energy on a basis of forecast e.g. prediction. Energy transfer is accomplished into an energy storage (106) or from the energy storage depending on the time period. The energy transfer is accomplished by an energy flow plate (110) between the storage and an energy source and/or energy sink of a vehicle. The forecast of the time period takes place with respect to input variables such as present navigation data, past navigation data, drivers, driving profile, motoring information and route information. An independent claim is also included for a device for connection of an energy storage to an electrical system.
