The controlling unit is adapted in such a manner that a light unit (L) is switched on and off with a consequence of switching pulses. The light unit is switched on for switching time period and is switched off for switching-off time period. A transistor is provided for realizing switching pulse. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling switching of a direct current-operated light unit in a motor vehicle.
