The laser beam welding device for welding of workpieces (12, 14) in a joining zone (16), comprises a laser beam source (18), guiding means, which guides a laser beam (24) generated by the laser beam source over the joining zone, and a protective gas device, which surrounds the joining zone during welding with protection gas. The welding seam (16.1) is produced within the joining zone by a defined relative motion of the laser beam and/or the workpiece. The protective gas device comprises a nozzle, which produces a protection gas coat for the formation of the welding seam. The laser beam welding device for welding of workpieces (12, 14) in a joining zone (16), comprises a laser beam source (18), guiding means, which guides a laser beam (24) generated by the laser beam source over the joining zone, and a protective gas device, which surrounds the joining zone during welding with protection gas. The welding seam (16.1) is produced within the joining zone by a defined relative motion of the laser beam and/or the workpiece. The protective gas device comprises a nozzle, which produces a protection gas coat for the formation of the welding seam in an area covering the joining zone. The guide means of the laser beam generated by the laser beam source guides along a defined guide web, which corresponds to the desired course of the welding seam, where the guide means for guiding the laser beam generated by the laser beam source comprises a positioning device and/or focusing optics and/or a laser scanner. The nozzle in a concentric course of the welding seam produces the protective gas coat in ring-shaped manner, where the nozzle is implemented as a ring nozzle, which comprises a radially arranged nozzle channel and/or tangentially arranged nozzle channel and/or a rotary slot and is formed from a metallic and/or ceramic material. A holding device is provided for fixing the workpieces in which the protective gas device is partially integrated. The controlling of the guide means is carried out by an evaluation- and control unit in dependence on information of an image recording device. An independent claim is included for a laser beam welding method for welding of workpieces in a joining zone.
